About Me and My Book:
2007 Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year, Mary Ellen Courville strives to build connections with students. Empathy motivates her writing as well. Her voice is heard locally through regular parenting articles in BRParents magazine.

Fiction is Mary Ellen's first love, however. In 2007 a short story "Breathe," inspired by the aftermath of the Louisiana hurricanes, appeared in an anthology. The companion Y/A novel tracks the lives of three teens as they face life after destruction and rebuild. It is currently in the revision phase.

Elementary children have received most of Mary Ellen's writing attention recently as her first children's book "The Pilgrim's Basket" awaits released in August 2008. As both a teacher and a writer, Mary Ellen listened as she heard about a class of Louisiana children who grew a garden and donated the vegetables to hungry families. "The Pilgrim's Basket" is a fiction children's story based not on the lessons the learning project meant to teach, but the unexpected outcome that taught the most. Dancing with my father

The gentle strains of a waltz fill the room as they approach the dancefloor. His frame towers over hers, more than double her size. Instead of intimidating, it's a comforting guide through the unknown steps of the dance. He gently takes the diminutive beauty's hands and guides her patent shoe clad feet onto the top of his, riding.

The once intimidating, crowded dancefloor changes from her new vantagepoint. Riding on his feet her steps are certain, smooth and elegant. Her body sways, secure in h… Continue

Bubblewrap Bonus

There are overlooked benefits to being in the book business. Bubblewrap, often on hand for packing up books for shipping, has other bonuses.

Bubblewrap bonus #1- Stress Relief

Carefully place bubblewrap on a hard surface. Tile floors work well. Concreted garage floors on the other hand, provide the acoustics for sound effect enjoyment. Picture object of your frustration in the reflective bubble of the wrap staring up at you. Now, crouch into a spring position, and jump! Stomp on it!

Scribblers’ Retreat is a non-profit organization established with the goal of reaching writers of all ages; to inspire and promote their hidden gifts and talents.
By involving the local community, authors, publishers, editors, journalists and all forms of the literary world, we are opening their minds and bringing hope where there was doubt.
Scribblers’ Retreat is not the typical classroom setting. It was designed to bring world-class authors, literature professors, editors, journalists, illustrators, photo journalists, proofreaders, publishers, publicists, screenplay writers, and website/graphic designers, etc. one-on-one with young and old alike. It is the opportunity of a lifetime for someone who has had a manuscript in a desk drawer for 40 years or who has an outstanding poem that simply must be read.

http://lindawagner.wordpress.com/childrens-book-titles/lady-flatterly/ This site actually takes you to my blog page of Lady Flatterley. My web page is http://www.lindawagnerbooks.com Thank you for your words of encouragement. I have seen your name on the Living Waters Website. It's just so sad to see the recent turmoil. Everyone I knew was very kind. I know each PH will give it's own sales pitch and they will say they are the best. I don't know if LW would be all that anxious to take me back. I have spoken with Lacresha several times and she has always been soooo supportive of me. Have you published with LW before and if you did, how did it go for you? I spoke with a manager at Barnes and Nobles and they said that it isn't up to the PH if they get a book in their store. It is the stores decision whether they accept the book or not. Almost everything depends on the "return policy". They do accept books that are self publishing also, so it is really very confusing to me who I should approach. I thought about approaching 4RV Publishing LLC. I just wish I had my Rick around to help me sort these things through.

Mary Ellen, if you don't mind me asking, did you go with a traditional publisher or self publihing? I had a publisher at one time, but really felt insecure about some things and backed out of the contract. I heard yesterday there is some inner turmoil so serious that I do not know if they will be able to survive. Someone wrote me from administration and said they were so glad that I didn't have a book pending publication which says a lot to me. Now I have a book all ready for publication, illustration done, layout done, but no PH. i do not know where to turn. I have many other stories ready for submission. I really feel at loss now. Any suggestion ? I am so happy for you and your book to come out this fall. You must be so excited too. Kudo's to you.

I guess I exaggerated a bit! I spend at laest two hours a day..writing articles, answering blogs, estab. relationships with like blog andwebsites..It takes a lot of time..and remember all the connections you make do not work..I have gotten a lot of promises..and they often fall thru...BUt I figure if I throw enough mud against the wall it will stick...And authors can help each other..by sharing names, blogs, and ideas..carol stanley www.spectacularlifeaftersixty.blogspot.com
