Have written and published four books with more to follow. Yes, head needs examining. Check out blog below. There may be some articles of interest. It's what I've learned along the way. The process never ends. The sea roils.

Google and Marketing

There are many programs available by Google to assist with marketing.

Keeping track of your news, reviews, and books can be daunting. One way to stay current is to list yourself on Google Alerts. When Google comes across some new information about you, an alert will be sent to your email address. This doesn’t catch everything, but I have found it helpful.

Google Books is a terrific marketing tool because I use it myself. I will rarely buy a book that I can't take a look at. Submi… Continue

Getting Your Book Reviewed

Kind words about your work can be placed on the back or front cover, or inside the book. Usually reviews are punctuated within quotes.

Pre-publication reviewers can be found by searching Google or links found on my website and in Links for the Independent Writer. Since there are time constraints, a fee is often, but not always, charged. Different reviewers ask for different for… Continue

What to Look for in a Subsidy POD Contract

Royalties. This is the percentage that an author is paid after a book is sold. Royalties can be based on the gross sale (cover price) or the net sale (after trade discount, printing, tax, shipping, handling, or whatever charges are specified in the contract). Some publishers rave about royalties that are 20% of net. They claim this generous royalty is over three times higher than a royalty paid out by a traditional publisher, which is around 6%. But they are comparing apples and trucks. A tradit… Continue

Scribblers’ Retreat is a non-profit organization established with the goal of reaching writers of all ages; to inspire and promote their hidden gifts and talents.
By involving the local community, authors, publishers, editors, journalists and all forms of the literary world, we are opening their minds and bringing hope where there was doubt.
Scribblers’ Retreat is not the typical classroom setting. It was designed to bring world-class authors, literature professors, editors, journalists, illustrators, photo journalists, proofreaders, publishers, publicists, screenplay writers, and website/graphic designers, etc. one-on-one with young and old alike. It is the opportunity of a lifetime for someone who has had a manuscript in a desk drawer for 40 years or who has an outstanding poem that simply must be read.
