BOOK REVIEWS

"REVIEW IT!" is a book review service for authors. A collection of volunteers - able to provide professional reviews across a wide spectrum - can offer reviews in the language of the book buyer. When librarians, and others, select books they have some specific criteria in mind and our reviews can communicate those strong points in the review process.

There are no guarantees. Good reviews are earned by good books. What we offer is a fair reading. With only a limited number of slots in the professional review sources, the new author can have a hard time getting reviews because even the "old hand" can find it tough.

Interested? Send a copy of your book (or CD) to: Marilyn A. Hudson 5658 NW Pioneer Circle Norman, Oklahoma 73072 Email: marilynahudson@yahoo.com

Books are not returned but they do find a good home in libraries, schools, hospitals, VA Centers, etc. This means exposure for your title and your name.

If your title is reviewed you receive: a review on the "REVIEW IT!" page, if your book is listed there, we post a review on Amazon.com and we add your title to either the "AUTHOR JUNCTION" or "OK WRITERS book promotion blogs for even more web-exposure. You are then free to use review text on your own PR materials.

Not in print yet but still want a review? This is possible and no copy of the text will be retained once the review has been generated. This is especially recommended so that an author can get those valuable -and hard to find - book jacket comments.

Also, we can provide some hints on promotion, link you up with a value priced graphic artist for book jackets and other promotional helps.

Email me with your questions....

I am sending this out to BMN members who specialize in any aspect of children's book publishing, whether your an author, artist, publisher, or offer some other valued skill needed in the creation of children's books.

I invite you to follow my blogs and comment, critique, and network with me as friends (so I can follow your work too).

I have found ning in general to be the best marketing and reference tool compared to any advertising, networking, or leads I have ever used -- free or paid for. And all it's costs is our time.

Many of you are already in my friend network, and thank you for sharing your work with me. For those of you reading, this that I have not introduced myself too, I would like to now, and ask we be friends so I can follow your craft as well.

We all need to support each others work through this economic distress, no stimulus or bail out is going to help us.

In my latest blog post, you will also see three other ning networks that I have created. One for children's book professionals/enthusiasts, one for southern/Tennessee writers, artists, etc., and one for WillowRaven clients (present, past, or future) or simply just fans of my work. I invite you to join the appropriate ones for you as well.

By involving the local community, authors, publishers, editors, journalists and all forms of the literary world, we are opening their minds and bringing hope where there was doubt.
Scribblers’ Retreat is not the typical classroom setting. It was designed to bring world-class authors, literature professors, editors, journalists, illustrators, photo journalists, proofreaders, publishers, publicists, screenplay writers, and website/graphic designers, etc. one-on-one with young and old alike. It is the opportunity of a lifetime for someone who has had a manuscript in a desk drawer for 40 years or who has an outstanding poem that simply must be read.

Yes, I have met Sharon and several others from PA. I have promoted several of their books on a book promotion page I do.

One of the hurdles for small presses and self-published authors is getting titles reviewed. Books are sent out -free - to numerous potential reviewers but in many cases it is simply money down the drain. As a professional libraian whose has had to buy thousands of books over the years, I know that libraries and schools look for books with reviews to provide a rationale for purchase. They want, usually, the big name review sources, yet the simple truth is there are far more books published (in just the major houses) per year than EVER see a review. So what chance do small presses or self-publishing authors have? When I do a review of a book, it is in the manner I would if I were considering them to be printed in a librarian focused publication. I apply all the professional criteria to provide, hopefully a jump start to promoting and selling a worthwhile title. Reviews provide backmatter copy, website comments, and other valuable promotional material. Not all books get reviewed, however, and I am up front about that. If a book is not worth putting on a book shelf, I do not provide a review for professional reasons. I do, however, provide tips and suggestions to the author ( a spoon ful of sugar helps the medicine go down, they say....). I have links on my blogpage at www.whorlbooks.blogspot.com
