About Me and My Book:
About me and my book - well, there's a lot of me in the book; that is, memories of mine and my mother's were attributed to the protagonist. The setting for The House on Slocum Road, is the foothills of the magnificent Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York -- specifically, Sacandaga, where I spent several happy childhood years on the farm. It didn't last--good things often don't, but I'm known to be "adaptable." When I looked for a setting for the novel, The House on Slocum Road seemed perfect. Of course the house is real, built in the early 1800s and belonged to my uncle, my father's brother. The name Slocum was my paternal grandmother's maiden name.

When I was a child, I loved to climb the curving stairs to the second floor and snoop in the bedrooms. It seemed spooky even then; probably because I wasn't supposed to be there. I decided to use the cradle, the book case in my story.

The story itself took less than a year to write, and about five years to revise and rewrite and rewrite. I did work with a professional editor, Loretta Hudson - a protege of the famed Sol Stein, who was a tremendous help to me. The finished product is a book that can be displayed on the living room table with no fear for whomever picks it up. It will entertain, and educate unobtrusively; informing facts that are not generally known. It is labeled, paranormal, romantic suspense. Please visit my website and read an excerpt.

A Wonderful Weekend

Just returned from the WOW CONFERENCE. WOW describes the weekend perfectly. Combine plenty of information, networking, fun with fabulous people and you'll understand why they call it THE WOW. If you're a writer of fiction, non-fiction, screenwriting or poetry, there was something here for everyone. Tim Dorsey, Florida's fave mystery author, regaled the crowd with his downhome humor. He defends his perennial serial killer, Serge, saying, "He's a lovable guy. Only kills bad people, not good one

Are you on Facebook and LinkedIn?

I would like to connect with you there also. I am trying to make more friends and fans so that I can spread awareness for breast cancer during pregnancy. I was diagnosed Stage 3 in the 5th month of my pregnancy in May. My status updates on Facebook and LinkedIn are usually about my fight.

By involving the local community, authors, publishers, editors, journalists and all forms of the literary world, we are opening their minds and bringing hope where there was doubt.
Scribblers’ Retreat is not the typical classroom setting. It was designed to bring world-class authors, literature professors, editors, journalists, illustrators, photo journalists, proofreaders, publishers, publicists, screenplay writers, and website/graphic designers, etc. one-on-one with young and old alike. It is the opportunity of a lifetime for someone who has had a manuscript in a desk drawer for 40 years or who has an outstanding poem that simply must be read.

Hi Dahris,

I haven't been keeping up with BMN the last few months. I want to get better about it. You know how it goes with time, though.

I still have no idea how you get everything done that you do. You're putting together another local conference for FL Writers now, too, aren't you?

Carry on and try to stay out of trouble!

Love,
Shara
