Scribblers’ Retreat is a non-profit organization established with the goal of reaching writers of all ages; to inspire and promote their hidden gifts and talents.
By involving the local community, authors, publishers, editors, journalists and all forms of the literary world, we are opening their minds and bringing hope where there was doubt.
Scribblers’ Retreat is not the typical classroom setting. It was designed to bring world-class authors, literature professors, editors, journalists, illustrators, photo journalists, proofreaders, publishers, publicists, screenplay writers, and website/graphic designers, etc. one-on-one with young and old alike. It is the opportunity of a lifetime for someone who has had a manuscript in a desk drawer for 40 years or who has an outstanding poem that simply must be read.

About Me and My Book:
Three books currently out there: One is the history of Springdale, Arkansas; another is a combination personal essay and interviews taken from my newspaper column; the latest issued is based on the life of a woman who moved to a homestead in New Mexico when she was six and today at 93 owns two ranches in that area.
I was born in Arkansas, about 15 miles where I live today. Have been writing for a bit over 20 years. I had six western historical romances published between 1994 and 2001 under two pseudonyms.
I live and write in the Ozark National Forest in the Boston Mountains. My workshops are popular and I still write a weekly historical column for a local newspaper.

No city lights around here to dim them, they shine so bright I can see my way around the yard. But the snakes crawl at night, so be careful there, too. In my head, words I should put on paper come to life. On hot summer afternoons the crystal clear water of the pool beckons, as do the shouts of the family splashing. I join them.

Because it's… Continue

Promoting books

For the past two months, I've spent a lot of time learning different ways to promote my books. The latest one, Fly With The Mourning Dove, has received some good reviews. I also learned how to promote my only POD book, which I reissued after the publisher who first published it went out of business. I now own all rights to Wandering In The Shadows of Time: An Ozarks Odyssey and am sending out excerpts to magazines for publication as a way of promoting the book. I learned this at a conference in… Continue
