All Things Are Possible

"All things are possible," said the lady on Larry King Live. She echoed my thoughts exactly and, I'm sure, the thoughts of many on this historic Saturday leading up to the inaguration of America's first African American president. I am completely blown away by everything that's happening.

Barack Obama electrified the country and the world during the campaign, and he is doing it again with this inaguration. The whistle stop train ride is something that will definitely grace the pages of the hist… Continue

It happened so fast

The elderly lady seated in a wheelchair spoke the above words as she was being interviewed by a reporter outside a bank that had been seized on Friday. Her sentiments echoed mine and, I'm sure, the rest of the population, as we watched this financial debacle being played out. The Big Picture

In a democratic society, elections come and elections go, but this US presidential election campaign will go down in history as one of the most exciting and electrifying the world has ever seen. As if an African American male and a white female vying for the democratic party's nomination wasn't enough, the staid Republican party went and nominated a female as their candidate's running mate. The political mercury could not possibly get hotter. However, the rhetoric from the Republican camp remain… Continue

Who should die?

This past week we were summoned to a meeting at the Board of Education for what was to be a "Pandemic training." I have to admit, the e-mail didn't spark much interest and I only attended because the subject line said "mandatory." The presenter spoke about the possibility of a pandemic flu that may strike the world due to an increase of the bird flu. From the way she spoke, such a possibility appeared to be imminent. It was not a matter of if it would happen, she said, but when.

We were told th… Continue

Scribblers’ Retreat Writers’ Conference would like to present you with an opportunity to partner with us in creating the most exciting development since the printing press.

Scribblers’ Retreat Writers’ Conference is a non-profit organization committed to the support and advancement of all writers published and non-published, offering four conferences of specifically chosen genres throughout the year, providing conference attendees a consortium of experienced authors, teachers, editors and others from the publishing world.

Scribblers’ Retreat Writers’ Conference, An International Forum for Writers, Publishers and Educators, cordially invites you to participate in our international budding authors conferences.
As an author/educator resource you are in a unique situation. Scribblers’ Retreat is looking for authors of all types, editors, journalists, illustrators, photo journalists, proofreaders, publishers, publicists, screenplay writers, teachers and website and graphic designers, actually, anyone who can encourage, guide and promote budding authors, to be guest speakers at our conferences.
Above is our agenda for 2009, offering a total of ten sessions per conference. Scribblers’ Retreat Writers’ Conference prefers to have a montage of the above talent at each conference to introduce attendees to all levels of the Language Arts World.
Scribblers’ Retreat would appreciate your assistance in reserving these creative guest speakers for our conferences. This is an extraordinary way to bring together the current “Hemmingways” and “Laniers” with those of tomorrow.
This is not just for adults. Scribblers’ Retreat is extending this internationally to Middle and High School Students as well as to Jr. Colleges/Universities. Scholarships for students who wish to attend and are not able to financially will be provided by corporate and private sponsorships. Scribblers’ Retreat is proud to support “No Child Left Behind”.
Scribblers’ Retreat is also offering a helicopter tour of the island, provided by Dragonfly Copters as a prize for the challenge in Kathy Kerr's session and a two and three hour kayak tour through Southeast Adventures for the challenge in Dr. Jim Outlaw's session.
Scribblers’ Retreat appreciates your assistance in pro-offering this invitation to all authors, book stores, editors, libraries, publishers, schools regionally, nationally, and internationally, and writers’ workshops.

Scribblers’ Retreat is a non-profit organization established with the goal of reaching writers of all ages; to inspire and promote their hidden gifts and talents.
By involving the local community, authors, publishers, editors, journalists and all forms of the literary world, we are opening their minds and bringing hope where there was doubt.
Scribblers’ Retreat is not the typical classroom setting. It was designed to bring world-class authors, literature professors, editors, journalists, illustrators, photo journalists, proofreaders, publishers, publicists, screenplay writers, and website/graphic designers, etc. one-on-one with young and old alike. It is the opportunity of a lifetime for someone who has had a manuscript in a desk drawer for 40 years or who has an outstanding poem that simply must be read.
