Excerpt from Hell Swamp

The hand wrapped around my throat, the long nails on its fingers cut my skin. I screamed. I could hear myself screaming. I snatched out of the fingers’ grip and fell. Fell a long way. Then the dirt hit my face. I was being buried alive! I scrambled sideways when I realized there was nothing to stop me. When I hit the table, I woke up, piled on the floor with the aloe plant from the bedside table and all its dirt on top of me. The nightmare I’d once had was back and more frightening than ever. I sat up on the floor and spit out dirt, flipping the plant unto the floor. I trembled, realizing I had peed in my pants.

Do folks really read blogs?

I was reading a post on another network about blogging when nobody ever reads it. I guess my thought on that is at least I get some things off my chest. Yes, it takes time away from promoting and writing the next book, but maybe, just maybe, someone will read my thoughts and respond..… Continue

Glad you enjoyed the video Susan. I thought the music might serve to knock people off their stride a bit. Looks like I succeeded.

Thank you.

Hi Susan, thanks so much for your comment on my page! :) I won't know until 5/15 if I make the final cut, but from what I can see, the competition is stiff and so I'm grateful to have made it this far. Many thanks.

Well, come on down! Texas is an awesome state. L&L is south of Houston, and I am north of Dallas, about 6 hours away. I don't recommend going to Houston in the summertime. It is miserably hot and humid. Dallas has a much lower humidity level. You would not be far from Galveston down there, however. I haven't been there in several years, but it used to be a nice vacation spot. The Gulf is nice and probably has great potential for some mysteries.

LOL I don't envy anyone in the public school systems today. No wonder you took up writing instead! I'm sure your nose for investigative scenarios must have helped curtail some of mischievous plots and pranks of your students. Better to write about murder than to do it. Kudoes on following your dream!

Susan, I failed to say that the book I'm working on now is a genealogy book and not a novel (I also do design and layout), but it did occur to me that it would make a good historical novel. Maybe I will decide to take the plunge and write the novel. I saw the murder mystery theme in your books. Did you just wake up one day and decide to write? I was wondering how one gets started.

BTW, Susan, I'm currently putting together a book for someone whose grandparents were part of the Dutch immigration project (1912) that was organized by Hugh MacRae of Wilmington and Dr. Frederik van Eeden of Holland to build the Van Eeden/Castle Hayne colonies near Wilmington. There's a lot of history in that area. I will be sure to order your new book that takes place there.
