About Me and My Book:
Jim Melvin, 50, was born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., but spent more than forty years of his life in St. Petersburg, Fla. He now lives in Clemson, S.C.

Jim graduated from the University of South Florida (Tampa) with a B.A. in Journalism in 1979. He was an award-winning journalist at the St. Petersburg Times for twenty-five years and retired in 2004 to become a full-time novelist. At the Times, he specialized in science, nature, health and fitness, and he wrote about everything from childhood drowning to erupting volcanoes. But he spent the majority of his career as a designer, editor, and supervisor.

Jim is a student of Eastern philosophy and mindfulness meditation, both of which he weaves extensively into his work. Meditation helps to clear his mind for long bouts of writing.

Jim is married and has five daughters. The Death Wizard Chronicles, a six-book epic fantasy series, marks his debut as a novelist. Book One is entitled The Pit.

Are you on Facebook and LinkedIn?

I would like to connect with you there also. I am trying to make more friends and fans so that I can spread awareness for breast cancer during pregnancy. I was diagnosed Stage 3 in the 5th month of my pregnancy in May. My status updates on Facebook and LinkedIn are usually about my fight.

Scribblers’ Retreat is a non-profit organization established with the goal of reaching writers of all ages; to inspire and promote their hidden gifts and talents.
By involving the local community, authors, publishers, editors, journalists and all forms of the literary world, we are opening their minds and bringing hope where there was doubt.
Scribblers’ Retreat is not the typical classroom setting. It was designed to bring world-class authors, literature professors, editors, journalists, illustrators, photo journalists, proofreaders, publishers, publicists, screenplay writers, and website/graphic designers, etc. one-on-one with young and old alike. It is the opportunity of a lifetime for someone who has had a manuscript in a desk drawer for 40 years or who has an outstanding poem that simply must be read.

Ah Jim,

Now you've gone and reminded me just how remiss I've been in visiting our beaches. ;o) I haven't been south of John's Pass in about 3 years. Guess I better get in my car and journey on down. Pass-A-Grille is legendary. I'd love some pictures. Been thinking about doing a story around Dunedun's Honeymoon Island - you know a paranormal time travel to the days when it was actually a place for honeymooners. I've been trying to get my son to go there and take an author picture of me with the beautiful lagoon in the background.

Good luck with your virtual book tour. I won't be using PUYB for In a Heartbeat because it's a short story, but I have a full length novel under consideration at The Wild Rose Press. As soon as I know something about that I would love to hire Pump Up Your Book.

Thanks.

Hi Jim,

(((waving from the T. Bay)))

Hope your weekend is going well.

Wonder if you'd be willing to share any secrets learned from your book tour with Pump Up Your Book? Are they any good? I've been thinking of using their services, but haven't really communicated with anyone who has experience with them.
