The top one percent
What marketing does the top one percent employ? Do they simply put their book on Ning and hope that it takes off? Do they get an advance from a book publisher and hope it sells?
Or does the one percent do the due diligence necessary to ensure their book is a marketable book, has an audience, and is well positioned in the market?

And it's frightening how many soon-to-be authors don't, either. I am always receiving queries from writers who have just completed a book and intend to publish it later that year - giving themselves about five months for editing, printing and promoting!! I know they think I'm just trying to discourage them when I tell them to wait at least a year...
