Reading Marco Polo's "The Travels" this week, I was struck how like a very early Lonely Planet Guide this 13th century manuscript is. Except, the venerable Marco desperately needs a great modern editor to make his chapter titles a bit more zappy, and to create history boxes and culture boxes to highlight features of interest. Maps and some illustrations would make the text a bit less stuffy, too.
That got me thinking ... how much of a book's success is from the original content, and ho…

Far too many times I have picked up a book on a specialist subject to find it is heavy and indigestible!
Full of long, technical words, and pompous opinion, I am turned off before I have finished chapter one.....
John Shindeldecker avoids this pitfall in "The World of Alevis". He creates a readable but informative introduction to this group of Islamic believers in the Middle East. He says, "My hope is that the reader will have a tasty, balanced meal, and the appetite to come bac…

Have you ever stopped to consider how children learn language, or how they develop reading skills?
If you are a children's books author, this is an essential part of your understanding of your target customer.
Peter Pikkert is an expert in this area, and he has written a book that helps adults learn a foreign language in the same way that children learn their native language.

| Biographies are always a fascinating read. Our curiosity about famous people means we are intrigued to see whether the real person behind the famous persona is exactly like the image portrayed, or whether there is some chink in their armor, some skeleton in the cupboard, or some childhood tragedy that has made them how they are. |
Houses often form an important character in a book. Just think of "The Lake House" in the film of that name. Click on my review in today's paper for another house that is the eponymous hero of a Turkish book ....

Thank you, for your suggestion, however, I'M NOT RESENTFUL OF ANYONE, WHO POINTED OUT MY MISTAKES & FAULTS, and usually, I'LL LISTEN TO ANYONE'S SUGGESTIONS & ADVICE, if that person is try to correct me.
If it wasn't for SHELA CLOVER ENGLISH, I WOULD OF NEVER SIGNED UP, FOR THIS NETWORKING SITE & SHE'S THE ONLY PERSON, WHO'S MY DEAR FRIEND & I WISH THE BEST FOR HER! :)
You left a comment on my page way back in August but I haven't really figured out how this site works yet and am sorry I'm just getting a chance to reply. I know the Hannah's Hope was suggested for translation into Russian a couple of years ago, but I never heard more beyond that it was going before some missionary translation committe, so I guess it didn't "make the cut". I would be thrilled if God took the messages He placed on my heart into other countries, however parts of the book are very "western" in mindset, addressing how part of why infertility is so hard to graple with (for the average north American) is due to our "all about me" cultural mindset. I know there are univeral messages in the book, but I don't know if all parts of it would translate culturally. If you have any additional thoughts on this, I'm always open to new doors God might lead the book through.
Blessings!

I recently read your post about the best way to approach a bookstore for sells. And might I say what an insightful post it was.
In your post on the subject of consignment sell in bookstores, you mentioned that it is more likely that the bookstore will work with you if they feel that author will pull the brunt of the marketing. Or something pertaining to that.
My quetion is this. If I were to take in with me, reviews, proof of marketing already done, media exposure dates of potential release, and things of this nature. Along with being organized and polite. Would this better my chances of landing a shelf spot in a book store?
Your insight to this question would be most greatly appreciated.
Hopeful,
Joel
