I've featured a few great writers on my blog, Julie Shapiro, Nelson Pahl, and now Shiela Stewart. So be sure to head over to my blog, found on my website, www.booksbycpmurphy.com and read the first excerpt from Shiela's Discover…

Anyone participating in NaNoWriMo this year?

For the past two days, I've been writing until my fingers turned numb just to say that I'm participating in this years National Novel Writing Month. So far, my word count is just shy of 4 thousand. I suppose I'm doing ok but yet to me it doesn't seem like much; maybe because I'm just starting. Anyone else taking part this year? What are your thoughts? What are you writing about? Curious minds want to know!

Oh yeah, I'm lost:(

I've never had a problem figuring blogs out for my everyday life; blog quite a bit on myspace for my family and friends, even had one on blogger.com for a while there. But then I wanted to set one up that is professional, about writing, about books, publishing in general. My website comes with WordPress which seems ok but I'm definately not high tech enough to figure this stuff out on my own and could use a little help if there are any angels viewing this.

What am I looking for? A blog…

A different approach that might have paid off

About a year ago I received one of those infamous chain letters in the snail mail. You know the kind, send me a dollar and remove the top person off the list so that you can add your address and within weeks you'll be a millionaire! Yeah right! I knew right away that I wouldn't be sending anyone any money or sending out hundreds of the same letter out again. But, I had a thought. There were 6 names and addresses on the letter. Who these people are, I had no idea. What they do for recreation,…

I send you greetings of peace and love from the rest of the family. They, like I, are always with you and never leave or forsake you. The angels and the rest of us want you to know how precious you are to us.

When I agreed to give up my divinity and be born in the flesh, I did so very willingly. I looked forward to the time when we, you and us, could all be together and share in everything that is. I looked forward to loving you, hugging you, comforting you and encouraging you so that, when your life gets tough, you will feel secure and supported enough to face whatever you have to face. I looked forward to being the one you could rely upon unconditionally for that strength, comfort and encouragement whenever and however you need it.

Not only that, I looked forward to sharing with you that we created you to love you, and that we so hoped and desired that you would love us back. We want you in our life, and we love it when you want us in yours. It was so exciting when I could turn to my disciples and expand our relationship to include friendship and true fellowship. I offer that friendship and fellowship to you today as well, and I look forward to your inviting me into your life in that way.

You can see there are many reasons why I came in the flesh so many years ago. There’s more! I also wanted to set you free from thoughts and behaviors that hurt you emotionally and spiritually. If you were hurt by people or experienced hard times in your life and lost things like your health, relationships, or your way of life because of disaster or unemployment, I wanted to give you the tips and tools as well as the encouragement to recover emotionally and spiritually from who or what hurt you so you could have the kind of life I want you to enjoy.

Most of you understand why I sacrificed my life for you and what an act of love that was. It is my hope that this letter will help you understand how very much more my life and ministry were to accomplish. I look forward to expanding our relationship now and forever.

Joyfully, Jesus

Thank you ladies for allowing me to sleep at night once again. Talking about horror stories with errors.

For starters, I am in the process of creating my own publishing company and re-releasing my first novel, ME TIME on my own label (slated for March 2008 to celebate my 50TH birthday). I believe this to be atleast my twentieth read of this novel to the point I can recite it in my sleep! Nonetheless, it will be used as a spring-board to the release of the sequel I GOT MINE Fall 2008.

Long story short, I published with AuthorHouse in 2006. Submitted manuscript in June for a September release party. Errors were so numerous they were too many to count. Resubmitted galleys only to now be pushed for a deadline. My release party was scheduled for September 10, 2006 with over 100 books already pre-sold and 75 attendees scheduled. Books were guaranteed to arrive several weeks prior too. Received them less than 48 hours before the event. So elated they arrived and crunched for time, proceeded with party. Event was a overwhelming success! Did not get the opportunity to exhale until the following day after dropping guests back off at the airports. Low and behold open the book and the "revised" copy was the edited version unedited. Almost hit the roof! Now I have hundreds of copies floating out there filled with countless errors. Couldn't sleep or eat. My buyers believed in me enough to pre-order most of the books without reviewing it. I am just starting to feel somewhat comfortable with this entire ordeal. How did I handle this situation? I resent the galleys back only to find new errors which were not on the original. I immediately stop marketing the book for sale only for exposure. Now this time around I have created my own publishing company to re-release my first novel along with a self-help guide I invented out of one of my seminars. First Time Out: The testimonies of a self-publisher.

Again, both of these projects will be a spring-board to release the sequel in September. I say all this to say, your comments allowed me to get some on my self worth back. For those who know me, I am viewed as a would be perfectionist,i.e. Perfect Patty. As a communications major it has taken me a while to grasp the fact that my name is out there circulating on something I would view as substandard. Although, not so eccentric to believe it deminishes my work. Moreso my pride.

Thanks for the lift!

Happy Reading!

Thanks for the invite. Writing historical fiction is fun. I've published two family history books that contain more than just the vital statistics and enjoyed the research so much that I decided to write a novel based on the progenitor of our family. There was so much interesting info on him, including a court case where he was found "Naked in Bed Together with Joanna Armitage, both married persons." How could I resist filling in the unknown portions of his life, speculating on how he got from point A to point B and what other "interesting" things might have happened to him along the way. The book is 400 manuscript pages along. My usual genre is mystery/suspense/thrillers.
