Scribblers’ Retreat is a non-profit organization established with the goal of reaching writers of all ages; to inspire and promote their hidden gifts and talents.
By involving the local community, authors, publishers, editors, journalists and all forms of the literary world, we are opening their minds and bringing hope where there was doubt.
Scribblers’ Retreat is not the typical classroom setting. It was designed to bring world-class authors, literature professors, editors, journalists, illustrators, photo journalists, proofreaders, publishers, publicists, screenplay writers, and website/graphic designers, etc. one-on-one with young and old alike. It is the opportunity of a lifetime for someone who has had a manuscript in a desk drawer for 40 years or who has an outstanding poem that simply must be read.

Hi John -- I tried what you suggested about the
badge. I still can't figure it out. What is the badge for?

I am very lucky that someone thought my poetry is
worth publishing. I enjoy writing and hope that it
reaches others as I intend that it will do.

No, I haven't had much education in this field. I
had some, but I keep saying I will take some more
classes. It is that someday thing!

There are many authors here so you shouldn't
have any problems finding authors to communicate
with.

Where are your badges on your site?

Hi John -- I am not sure how to get the badge. Are you
sure I mentioned it to you? I have a hard time
getting my way through a paper bag. (just joking)
Yes, my second book of poetry, "Immortal Feelings"
has been out a few months. I just did a book signing
at Barnes & Noble in my hometown and sold out of the
60 books they ordered plus 10 of my first one. It
was an exciting evening.
I have started my third book in between writing
short stories for Amazon. So John, life is good and
lots of fun.
Good to hear from you. Good luck with the badge.

Amazon books has a new program for new Authors: http://www.createspace.com/index.jsp
They also give you a "FREE" ISbn # and your book is
put on Amazon around the world..Great idea, Publish
on demand...Check it out, I thin they only get 45%
compared to some publishers who get 90%...

Cheers...Joe

Hi Jack, thanks for the request! I've just joined and about to get set up. I haven't published yet either. I've been life coaching & employment counselling, designing and faciliating govt. funded programs for about 12 years. Then finally decided to write a book! I'm almost done and going to self-publish in Jan. Nonetheless, I am taking measures for marketing strategies now, so that I'll be ready. Look forward to chatting soon. If you'd like to take a peek at my newsletter and podcast, it's at: http://brendablackburn.com/newsletter/sept-2007.php .

Hi John,
It's nice to make friends with you. That is what my first book is all about, friendship. If you love to write and have a finished manuscript check out PublishAmerica at www.publishamerica.com to publish it. When they accepted my manuscript for publishing I was shocked. As my mother said to me, "Don't let your talent sit idle, try it, what have you got to lose." I listened to her and my book was released in June, and chosen as Publisher's Choice for The Book of the Week on July 30th. Dreams do come true, I wish you the best.

Hi John,
After initiation by my meditation teacher, many extraordinary experiences -- in meditation, dreams, and visions -- occurred that helped me meet life and make positive changes, that I decided to share them in a book -- not just tell the stories, but really try to explain how I contemplated the experiences to learn what they were meant to teach me. I hope I've done that! Sacred Visitations took 7 years to write! (I might not have started if I realized how long it was really going to take). Anyway, you can find samples (both written and audio) on my book web site, SacredVisitations.com. I've worked in publishing since 1988, and as a writer even longer. Right now my editorial work gets most of my attention and keeps me from touring to promote Sacred Visitations, so I rely on word of mouth and the Internet for people to find out about the book and buy it :) And now back to work! Best of everything to you, Ceci

I forgot to mention the song on my site. It was written by a good friend from Nashville. The other one on the opening page is wonderful too. I hope you can download them because I know you'll enjoy both!

When I write and get in the "groove" it's almost like a drug. Hours can pass and it will only seem like minutes. That's how I know I'm passionate about the topic. I had this inner drive that kept telling me I had a message that needed to be heard. While I loved it I can't say it was relaxing. I guess that's what I meant about being passionate about writing. But then, to love it and enjoy putting your thoughts on paper (or computer) could also feel like a passion.

and four short stories which are on Amazon.com.
My books of poetry were published by Publish America.
Just go to publishamerica.com and check out author
