I recommend Twitter as a great way to microblog other Twitterers with links back to your own book blog or website.

Spam is the abuse of electronic messaging systems to indiscriminately send unsolicited bulk messages.

If I send to people on a known list that I communicate with and have agreed to correspond with. it is not SPAM. Email SPAM is where someone of a nefarious nature gets a hold of a large email list to send items that are more or less useless to the average person.

I sent emails to some people that have talked about Twitter and want to use it for marketing - in this case subjects related to books they are writing. In this case Tweetergetter can be a useful viral marketing tool that allows you to reach a broader range of people - say future buyers of your book and who are interested in the subject of your tweets. In 24 hours my follower list doubled, and the people who follow me on twitter are interested in my musings on finances and the economy - subjects of my upcoming book.

I still encourage people to check it out as it appears to work, and NOT be any form of email SPAM according to the tradidional definition.
