It's hard to believe it has not even been a year since I completed my book, "At The Starting Gate", self-published it, and began the journey to marketing and promoting it. As soon as the ink was dry and my book was bound and ready to read, I was advised that I needed a website. I did that within a few months. Next, they said I needed a blog.
"A what!?"
"A blog!"
"What is a blog?", I asked myself. That was a real adventure in patience but, I eventually figured it out. Slowly I started blogging. Nobody came. Later readers showed up and started commenting. Then I found you need three blogs, a main blog, one for your books, and one for personal stuff. I have all that. "Oooh dear, dear me, what have I gotten myself into? What do I do now?"
This is the way it has gone since the beginning. I get advice that there is something I need to do, I do it, that leads to another something that needs to be done. This list is long and includes everything from join this group or this network to claiming your blogs on Technorati.
Finally, the advice is - if you do all these things and still nobody comes (visits and comments) then you - participate. I've got everything I was told I needed in place, I'm participating all over the place, and have made so many wonderful new friends sometimes it takes days to make sure I connect with them all.
It is my practice to give too much information but, then that is something I will work through as I make my way on this new journey I find myself on. So, what about my book? Did I say I had completed my first ever marketing step on yesterday? I did.
What is my first ever marketing step?
I'm giving away copies of my book as gifts.
