Well, I'm counting down the days until In a Heartbeat's release. The nervous jitters are roaming under my skin and for some odd reason I'm having trouble sleeping. All for a pretty, sensually sweet story with a happy ending. *sigh*

Here's a tidbit to temp you . . .

In a Heartbeat, Faery Rosette is told from the hero Malik’s POV after a bad dating experience. Here’s a tidbit within Malik’s mind …

Was it too much to seek a connection? Maybe even on a spiritual level? His biceps hardened when he ground the steering wheel through a sharp right turn. Lexee the SC purred some more and cornered like she was on rails. He relaxed his arms, reached across with the right hand and pushed his rain dampened short sleeve above the curve of muscle. Even in repose his arms were large. He worked hard for his body and considered it a temple for the soul.

Problem? His soul cried out for that special someone. He knew she was there—somewhere. Someone whose heart beat in tandem with his. He didn’t want to own her. Hell, he wanted an intelligent and independent woman. Someone who could think for herself, be fast on her feet, with lush sweet lips.

Okay, so he was a man. Sweet lips that could tantalize and tease him, sending him into boundless pleasure. Heartbeat to heartbeat.

“Patrick Swayze,” he said with a sneer. “It’s in a heartbeat.” He shifted with purposeful roughness and pressed for more gas. Lexee roared and shot forward. The speedometer jumped.

“He’s such a hunk.” Even he was surprised at his falsetto tone. He growled low to balance out his testosterone. Put a good looking man seeking an emotional connection in front of a woman and what do you get?

Pawed before you even have a chance to open the car door for her. He ground his teeth. Something else he had in common with the famous actor’s character. Being used by women. Hell, he’d been called ‘Prime rib,’ before. The young chit who’d said that merely winked when she realized he’d heard. Then raked her gaze over him like he was on a seller’s block, stopping at the bulge in his jeans for closer assessment.

He hissed through his teeth like the air coming from a tire. Sure, he wanted sex. Lots of hot, passionate, ardent sex. With the right person. This funk he currently experienced came from casual encounters. He’d felt it before.

Up ahead the empty road beaconed. He didn’t remember getting this far. His turmoil of thoughts carried him so close to home. He punched his foot down, seeking one last push of high before slowing down to turn into his driveway.

The light changed. Red glared, waving like a spectral omen.

Lightning flashed, blinding him briefly, then…

A scream and sudden flash of movement surrounded by blue.

He braked hard, unsure of the apparition. Tires squealed. Lexee lost her grip on the wet pavement, spinning rakishly. Rotating the wheel opposite to Lexee’s motion, visions of his life flashed before his eyes. He expected a crash. None came.

Silent stillness…

Breathing hard, grateful for continued life, he reached for the door handle. The scream echoed in his mind, horror at possibilities out in the wet world compelled him forward. He stepped out, instantly soaked, feet moving of their own volition.

His heart shook…

Blackness engulfed the world beyond the blue white lights shining from his car. He froze, unable to make his body move through the shock wrapping his brain.

She stood . . .
