Johnny Tan The art of being a good listener

A friend once asked me to explain the difference between hearing and listening. I told her the difference is that when we listen to someone we are engaging ourselves to truly learn what he or she is trying to relate to us, rather than just hearing words coming out of someone’s mouth and hearing what we want to hear instead. In today’s world of multitasking, we are all guilty of doing too many things at the same time just because we can, or perhaps just because we are multitalented. In order to… Continue

Johnny Tan Overcoming Fear

Holiday seasons is a time for celebration and joy, however, it can also be fairly challenging when we are confronted with memories of yesteryear when we reminisced events, situation, and people in our past. Sometimes things may not work out as planned because the timing is off. If we have given our best, then we have to release it to the universe to be sorted out. According to my Malaysian mom Nyah, “Life and situations have a way of working themselves out eventually through a universal order.… Continue

Johnny Tan Having Humor in Everything We Do!

During this upcoming holiday season some of us will be meeting new people for the first time and some of us will not necessary be looking forward to meeting the people whom we already knew, but am glad that we will only be in their company once a year. Regardless whatever situation you are in, have you ever considered that someone’s brilliant one-liner may tickle you more than your funny bone, because it may ignite a tiny spark in your heart? If this is true about you, then you are one of the f… Continue

Johnny Tan "Home for the Holidays" - A Celebration of the Heart with a Gift from the Soul!

Some of us already realize this, and others will experience it for the first time: The kitchen will be the most important room in the house in the coming weeks. Regardless of whether it is a modern-day designer’s kitchen or just one of the so-called “timeless” efficiency kitchens, it is time for it to claim center stage, as it will serve as the hub for the transformational loving energy that will bind families and friends alike during this holiday season. Known as the heart and soul of any hom… Continue

Rob Shelsky Some Tips For Marketing your Books

Ah marketing! How I hate it! I think most writers do. Marketing oneself as a writer. It does make one feel like a bit of a prostitute at times, no doubt about it. Not only do we have to have good imaginations these days, the ability to come up with plots and actually take months to write them down, take the abuse of publishers and their numerous rejections, but we have to do so much more! We have to market ourselves, and our work. And that "ain't easy!" It can be time consuming, expensi… Continue

Luellen Hoffman Special Dream Nov 4th Intervew on the radio

Yesterday I was interviewed on the radio that will air on Sunday, Nov 8th on a local FM station called WASH FM. The host was Lori Brooks and she has a program on Sunday mornings (early) called "Women of Vision" and the interview went well. I was on her show just over a year ago and afterwards there was a big spike on the web site and I also got a call from this nice gentleman who told me to call this lady, because he knew she had a special dream. I did and it's one of my favorite stories in the… Continue

Johnny Tan Time is a luxury we all have

Have you ever wondered sometimes that we seemed to always be in a hurry to make a quick decision because we think if we do not, we would simply missed an opportunity of a lifetime. However, when we do make that quick decision, we sometimes find ourselves in a quandary. Perhaps this is a good food for thought... I will always remember what my Italian foster mom Carol, told me when we first met in the summer of 1980. She said, “Time is a luxury we all have.” It is often said that no time is the r… Continue

Carol My first story rejection

I got a note from AGNI in email a few days ago rejecting a story I submitted to them for possible publication. Ironically, since I've come to understand that the vast majority of submissions are rejected, I actually felt good about the fact that they read my piece and responded to me in a reasonable period of time. I know that not all story submissions are going to work for every single publication I submit to, just because I'd like it to be published. What's "good" about this situation is that… Continue

Vanessa Richardson Through The Storm

What a glorious day it was going to be! I'd planned my day a week in advance. Another lesson learned: Life can become unexpectedly busy. Yet in somethings, there are no lesson to be learned. Sometimes, you just KNOW a thing. I know to appreciate the beauty; that life has to offer me.… Continue
