Where?

Where?

I think where is in a place right over there.
Or maybe, beyond a doubt, it is right here.
Are you able to perceive where 'where' is?

We know it can't be there for it's where.
We know it can't be here because it's where.
See, it's has to be near here somewhere.

So wherever it's found; it's somewhere.
Or at least it's certainly close by somewhere.
For where is always inside somewhere.

But a friend of mine said it was everywhere.
Which surely would make it here and there.
It's clear, it's somewhere at the same time.

I think that means it could be seen anywhere.
From standing in my shoes to flying a kite
It's right here! Where? Here! No not there!

Where?

Memories

There’s a stability in solitude held
inside memory’s opened architecture
that lets a soft wind slip through

slit windows. It seems like gray clouds
are made of laced doilies where sky
and light frame the dusted-glint on glass.

The hardwood floor echoes with slow
dissipated footsteps as each room recalls
a distance set behind an emptiness.

A shadow’s remembrance is left on pages
closed in every corner as a pressed leaf
hides within a bookcase of worn books.

Marked vacancy in the hal… Continue

Pressed By Sea Wind

Pressed By Sea Wind

In my glint-squinted eyes
Comes the salt from ocean winds
This capped reflection captures
The balm, calm and cloudy sky—
White pillows in cumulous air—
Only the washed sigh of the sea
Answers with its rushed-hush
Where foam and scattered spray
Map the endless shorelines
There the drenched memory
Is dipped into the steady waves
Timeless like a dreamed pulse.

Frozen In Time

Frozen In Time

The caged land of the self where
only the thumbprint of identity
remains in the blizzard of time.

In the soft shadowed bars of ice and
snow the face appears as a one eyed
sketch with cold lips held in a trance.

Only the snowdrift inside the mind
can release these shades of coldness
that fall as faint slips of slick color.

These faded blues and pinks rush
into the white-noise of pale silence
to hold the heart in a jail of wet ash.

Earth's Deep-Held Whisper

Earth's Deep-Held Whisper

Yes! I hear her speak like cotton,
but her pursed lips do not move,
and slippered-gently her voice
is not sensed below the pale clouds.

It's beyond the death in whispers;
snug, it's a silent sleeping sound.
I am taken away by her soft words
as som… Continue

Death Enflames

Death Enflames

I picture death standing
beside me in etched flames.
His white skull glances
over toward me and grins.

I am frozen in the fright
of this moment as I listen
for a word or to feel a touch
upon my shrouded shoulder.

I know he likes my black
shirt; it must prompt him
of the bombazine he loves.
It reminds him of darkness.

Without moving a muscle
I shift my eyes to see him,
but he is just out of sight.
If only I was sure he was

there in his quiet whispers,
dressed in shadowy… Continue

I Lost You On The Train To Emptiness.

I Lost You On The Train To Emptiness.

You were asleep,
So I left you this note.
There is a rose on your bed;
Whatever you do; don’t roll over on it.

You were asleep;
I had a need to say more.
I left you this red rose. You, so soft,
So dreamy, I didn’t want to awaken you.

You were asleep.
And I had to leave for the train.
I left in a hurry, but offered a rose as a gift.
I didn’t know I’d never see you again.

You were asleep;
I left in a rush for someplace new.
Wanting you now. It’s ove… Continue

Love Song Of The Blind Man

Love Song Of The Blind Man

If I knew what you saw in the darkness
I wouldn’t need to fall into that music
about how you feel beneath my fingertips.

If I had what you hold within your eyes
I wouldn’t need to whisper your name
into the silent corners of empty rooms.

If only I knew the color of any part of you
I would know the true color that fills
your veiled worlds of heaven and earth.

Inside of me there is an outcry that is held
by a singe in flames. I can only see you in
the touch of… Continue

Beyond Our Blind Eyes

Beyond Our Blind Eyes
I must confess this world is a mess,
but beyond it's crimes there's beheld
times that allow us to find a beauty
of another kind, a wider space where
we can love the human race. We only
need that spark that's sought in a single
seed; that a moment's thoug… Continue

The Path Inside

If I could walk a path between white clouds
that is forever lined like quartz; I'd lift
my dreams beyond the sky to run around
the moon and stars. I would entice the sun
to shine its brightest light before my steps
to illuminate the gif… Continue

When she slowly opens up

I look intently at her stark

I gaze upon her exposed

Are you on Facebook and LinkedIn?

I would like to connect with you there also. I am trying to make more friends and fans so that I can spread awareness for breast cancer during pregnancy. I was diagnosed Stage 3 in the 5th month of my pregnancy in May. My status updates on Facebook and LinkedIn are usually about my fight.

Hi Ron,
Thanks for the friendship: always nice to meet another poet.
I'd suggest you ask your marketing question again in the Self Publishing Group here on BMN, maybe get more answer.

There are a couple of answers.

By the way, poetry lends itself MUCH more to actual printing than to POD.
The model for POD books these days is pretty much have an online point of purchase page (button on your site, etc) sending people to amazon or B&N to buy.
Then pimping it on sites like this.

I've done poetry books myself before...had a line of 8 titles in Seattle for awhile... which is just print up,, truck 'em around to stores, mention them at readings, always have one in sight whereever you go. Seriously. You're at a reading, in a coffee house, on the bus...have your book where people can see it.

Same goes for my rent-payer, see at http://slang101.com I'm working on better distribution in Mexico: have just been to lazy and hate "Mexinomics" hassles. But I sell it off the site using a button to my own PayPal account, which is, I'd say an absolute must.

I did it an ebay store for awhile: made money until sales flattened out and the store was costing too much for the sales I was getting. You can sell as a single item on eBay without paying for a store. You just have to keep replacing the listings as they sell. Sell "Buy It Now". Although letting a couple go for bids might be an interesting experiment in self-esteem.

And you still end up having to pimp it around. But so do authors on big pub houses anymore.

My feeling is, a poet sells the most books at readings. Do all the readings you can, stand up there and read from the book so they see it. Mention, "This is from my book "Ode To The Bank", and maybe "I have copies for sale over there at my table."
Hit indy stores, coffee houses, the usual suspects.

Donate a copy to your local library. Give them as prizes for things where the name will be announced.

Good luck

Not virtual shop, though virtual shops can use viral marketing and should. Viral marketing employs existing social media networking (actually business networking) sites to achieve more exposure for greater sales. We use MySpace first and foremost, because it is an open communications platform, which means anyone, anywhere at any time can find you and look at your page. In other networking sites, like this one, the platforms are closed, which means unless you cleverly coded in a URL to an outside page or site, the only people who will find you are members who are logged in to the site and looking around. For example, you are a poet. Your MySpace URL should include the word poet or poetry, so people looking for poetry and poets can find you and look at you, whether they have a MySpace account or not. People are savvy. They search after that to find your site if they want. If they are MySpacers, they friend you and strike up a conversation. That is the people and social part, and it is important. Relationships are important whether we are doing business in the real world or online. Here, you and I are talking. Relationship. See? We get to know each, decide if we might like to learn more about each and do business together. And books are business. Never forget. We have a series of columns on MySpace and Publishers Marketplace under Book Candy Sandy. You should read them. Very helpful, if I don't say so myself. We've been helping authors and others for two years. We are in a growth mode, adding new products and looking to open a sister company to serve those outside the publishing world. Very exciting. We can help you, too, possibly with our set of mini trailers called Sweet Spots. Clever little one-minute pieces with a united theme across the set but with each covering a different poem in your case. Some authors use them for trilogies. Publishers use the in sets of 12 to promote different authors in their stable. I love these things. My partner developed them, and I'm proud of him. If you want to chat sometime, call me. I'm in California at 949.613.2099. I'd be delighted to speak to you. Sandy (Book Candy Sandy, that is!)
