About Me and My Book:
Hi!

I'm not an author of books but of booklets. Booklets take very little time to write and in my experience are quite profitable.

I got started writing booklets when a book project I was working on became very tedious and boring. I decided I needed a faster way to become published. So, I did a 180 degree turn, changed my subject completely, and wrote a booklet called 60 Ways To Make Fast Cash. That booklet took me two weeks to finish, and I only worked on it three hours a night.

I quickly realized that if I had a second booklet they could cross sell each other, and so I wrote 119 Ideas To Save You Money Now. I had to laugh at a meeting the other day because I was in a room full of business people and when I told them about the booklet they snapped up every copy I had! Never mind the fact that the booklet was written for stay at home moms. They wanted a copy!

I marketed these two titles together for a while, and I always sold both as a set, even though they were available separately and there was no price advantage to buying them together.

In December 2007 I came out with a new title called Simple Tips & Recipes For Feeding The Gluten Free/Dairy Free Child. This booklet is the one that has really put me over the top as an author. It recently sold to a major hospital. They plan to use it to train their nurses in the diet. I have no medical degree, but several nutritionists, nurses and administrators have told me it's the best thing they've seen on the subject in such a quick and easy format.

I'm now marketing this booklet to allergy centers, and I've just finished two spin-off titles which are aimed at the adult market rather than at parents.

I've also had a tremendous response from food manufacturers regarding this booklet. One in particular told me he wanted to order 600,000 copies to include in his product packaging. Another is still contemplating how to use the booklet, but he likes it and sent me 12 cases of his delicious products to sample for my spin-offs.

In addition to writing and marketing my own booklets, I also write booklets for other businesses and I've started a blog (see the link below) for authors who are interested in pursuing the booklet option.

There are so many places a booklet can take you. It's just amazing. I never would have thought I could sell anything to the medical community ever. But, it's happening!

To discover more about booklets check out my blog and stay tuned.

Breaking Into Magazines With Booklets

Did you know you can actually break into magazine writing with a booklet? Not only that, but you can gain exposure for yourself as a writer and for your booklet as a product, as well as anything else you have written or have to offer.

Last week I contacted about 25 editors to get confirmation from them of who at their publication I should send my booklet to. I was extremely brief and to the point. So far, 10 editors have responded, all of them favorably.

One editor, however, we… Continue

What Do You Want From A Publishing Service?

If you were paying a publishing service for production of your book or booklet, what services would you want the most? Would you require editing? How about graphic design? What about printing? Would you want help with the marketing process? Would you like to have a consultant you could speak with at the company to help you make marketing or production decisions?

What expectations would you have if you were paying for services? Maybe you just want fast turn around or a top notch product… Continue

It's Not The Booklet, It's The Content

Your booklet's content, and not the booklet itself, is what's most important. If you view your booklet as just one way to get your information to your readers, that leaves many other options for repackaging that information.

There are many ways you can repackage your booklet's information to reach new readers in new markets. You can re-format the booklet into a CD or MP3 file. You can take some of the information from the booklet and re-write it into a new booklet for cross-selling purp… Continue

Products = Money. The More Products, The More Money

Simply put, a booklet is a product. It doesn't matter whether it's been created as a promotional tool or as a product in it's own right. It is still a product.

It takes time to develop a product, but once it is finished it can be sold repeatedly, requiring very little time from you (and no time at all if your product is sold as a download!).

If you are a speaker and you have no products to sell in addition to your speaking, you are only selling your time. Time is something you… Continue

Blogging To Promote Your Booklets

Blogs are a great way to make booklet sales (and yes, book sales too!). Create a blog that has something to do with your booklet's topic. Then, begin making posts. Your posts should be informative and educational for your readers. If you can write a booklet you can write blog posts, so no excuses! If you need ideas for posts, there is TONS of information on the internet. Read other blogs related to your topic as well as articles and current news. Use Google's Reader and subscribe to other blogs… Continue

It is my honor that you accepted my invite. I have been busy but it is a passion of mine to write non-fiction. You booklets sound very interesting. When you get a chance explain about what they are all about. The medical community is a very interesting place and it must be very rewarding to be in that world.

Hi Kim,

Thank you for accepting my friend invitation. While reading your bio I noticed you have a publishing company that creates booklets. I'm working on another project and when I'm ready maybe we could discuss how your company could assist me.

Hi, Kim. Yes, well probably people that like real life crime. Non-fiction police stories. The same ones that usually watch "Cops" on a regualr basis. Actually my book, according to one reader, is better than "Cops".
Anyway, I could supply some stories that would lead into the book.

Dear Kim,
I remember when my son brought home the bag with my daughter's ashs in it, and read a two page booklet that the funeral home sent with it, and how empty I felt. It did not help me or my husband with our feelings about her death. It truly lacked substance for the people that are going through such an ordeal.
Could you explain a little more about the booklets, as I am sure that I would be willing to explore writing one for the loved ones left behind.

Hi, Kim. Thanks for being a friend.

I write a lot of short stories. Ten are on Amazon. Let me know if you'd be interested in reading a sample and considering making a booklet out of some.

Hi Kim, so pleased to meet you! Thank you for your nice comments. I never really thought about writing booklets...but with the photography & travel articles I've written, it certainly is worth considering. I do admit I'm intrigued. I've gotten so many great ideas already on this site. Right now I'm in the process of updating my website. I look forward to talking more with you on the subject.

Hi Kim,

I will definitely check out your website. I want to learn more about your project. At first, I was wondering how beneficial BMK was going to be. But now, I think it just might be after all. I am meeting a lot of interesting people here.

I also look forward to networking with you and having more discussions.
