Scribblers’ Retreat is a non-profit organization established with the goal of reaching writers of all ages; to inspire and promote their hidden gifts and talents.
By involving the local community, authors, publishers, editors, journalists and all forms of the literary world, we are opening their minds and bringing hope where there was doubt.
Scribblers’ Retreat is not the typical classroom setting. It was designed to bring world-class authors, literature professors, editors, journalists, illustrators, photo journalists, proofreaders, publishers, publicists, screenplay writers, and website/graphic designers, etc. one-on-one with young and old alike. It is the opportunity of a lifetime for someone who has had a manuscript in a desk drawer for 40 years or who has an outstanding poem that simply must be read.

Hi Tom, great to have you on my friend listing and thanks for your comments. I wish I liked to do book signings but I really don't. Most of my books are on crime and punishment and my latest is my life story, A Mothers Torment which was published back in 93.

However the publisher took out so much of the story and changed names and it's my life and I wanted everything in there It's all true and I don't care if they try to sue me for telling the truth. I can prove what I say is true.

They railroaded my son to death row and I have a letter from the minister in Nashville where he says he knows my son is innocent because Chief told him so.

But he said it was priviledged information and he won't tell it to the public....he let my son die by medical neglect after twenty two years inside for a crime he never committed and one he knew he was innocent.

To me that's protecting the guilty. Although he is on the row, my son would have been alive today had he been out on the streets with me and gotten medical care. That's why I rewrote it this year and brought it up date and put it all in there.

I mean what can they do to me. I live on SS and what I make with the books so there isn't anything they can do. I don't care. I just want to prove my son's innocence before I die. I spent the past thirty years trying to do so, living in a state I hate to do so and to be with him, but now he's gone as is my youngest son who also spoke out with me, so there isn't anything left they can do to hurt me.

I just hope I can do so before time catches up with me.....good to get to know you. Shirley

The Battle of Manassas -- Heroes and Legends

First Manassas: July 21, 1861
For this historical event we are preempting and delaying Prologue Part 6 for one week.

Tuesday July 16, 1861
Courier delivers secret note from Washington to Confederate General Beauregard in Northern Virginia. ‘Order issued McDowell to march on Manassas tonight.’

Showdown: Beauregard immediately notifies Rebel commanders to send, without delay, divisions to be positioned along the Bull Run.

We Hold These Truths to be Self Evident

The Goring Collection’
Prologue Part 5

On his return trip to San Francisco Jacob had time to think and reflect on his experiences of the past three days. What was truly amazing to him was how he had fit right in with the Bromfield family and their friends. Then as he looked out at the California countryside he was reminded of Tony Rockwell’s remark about his political leanings. ‘…Are you truly as far left as you profess to be?’ Jacob was aware that his zest for the Communist Party was no… Continue

Griffin Slave Sale and Magnolias.

Griffin, Georgia Doc Holliday’s birthplace is right smack in the middle of the Old South. And while the city has grown and taken on a more modern look, some of the buildings from the 1800’s are still standing beside the modern, and from time to time you might get a touch of nostalgia when you smell the magnolias.
Among the buildings built in the 1800’s is the Byington Hotel, located at Broadway and Hill; another is a two-stor… Continue

Turn Left on Fremont and walk to the OK Corral

Researching a Legend Part 3

North on Fourth and left on Fremont
I paused at the corner of Fourth and Allen and took out my 1881 street map to refresh my memory just to get a better idea of how it looked then. Some of the prominent landmarks I’d read about were still there some were not.
Walking north toward Fremont Street Hafford’s Corner Saloon was first on my right with the Brown Hotel, Gun Shop and News Stand farther along.
On the left was an Assayer’s office, Zeckendorf Building, a v… Continue

A Tourist in Tombstone -- Jacob and the KGB

Researching a Legend Part 2
On the Ground in Tombstone
I was excited to actually see the town of Tombstone as I drove past the city limits sign. I found the motel I had booked, checked in and unloaded my bags. I doubt that I spent ten minutes in the room. I walked out to those dusty streets of Tombstone just to get a sense of place. The first day I didn’t carry a notebook or recorder, didn’t want to inhibit the atmosphere. All I wanted to do was walk, look and listen to the sights and sou… Continue
