Ron -

Just before I went to medical school in San Diego, I worked a year for Schaefer Ambulance in a "brand new" job title called EMT. As you probably know, EMT was at the time (1977) quite the level of training. During those years, Schaefer provided most of the ambulances we would see on television and in movies. One of them - a red, white & blue Cadillac ambulance (which were no longer legal to use on emergencies) - was used by Bill Cosby & Raquel Welch in a movie called, "Mother, Jugs & speed."

My partner & I would sneak that ambulance out & drive it around San Diego on Saturday nites.

I will never forget the look on the San Diego PD's faces when we pulled up next to them. They probably could have hauled us off . . . if they could have figured out what to charge us with. To their credit, they just laughed.

Great days in California EMS. Thanks for the super law enforcement photos.
