About Me and My Book:
My book is titled, "At The Starting Gate". I am a retired elementary teacher, writer, and first time author. After a forty-year journey through young adulthood, marriage, motherhood, teaching and mentoring I have a new goal. That goal is to encourage others who have put their dreams on hold or on the back burner of life to reach for their dreams. If you have ever thought about writing a book, then my new book is a must have. I proudly introduce my book which is a collection of my poetry and short stories.

My short stories and poetry collection will inspire others to start writing their book. It will help motivate while working through the writing process. MY book is an example aspiring authors can hold, read, examine, and critique. This captivating book provides new writers tangible evidence that they too can write a book

"Guest Interview" with Leona G Shankle

My first ever interview was a smashing success. Cynde L Hammond has done an amazing job of conducting the interview with this "nervous Delly", can't remember the last time my nerves twisted and tied themselves in a bunch like this.

Come on over to Cyndes Got the Write Stuff and join us for the interview. We'd love to see you there.

PLEASE leave comments, we love those!… Continue

My First Book Marketing/Promotion Step

It's hard to believe it has not even been a year since I completed my book, "At The Starting Gate", self-published it, and began the journey to marketing and promoting it. As soon as the ink was dry and my book was bound and ready to read, I was advised that I needed a website. I did that within a few months. Next, they said I needed a blog.

"A what!?"

"A blog!"

"What is a blog?", I asked myself. That was a real adventure in patience but, I eventually figured it out. Slowly I started b… Continue

Are you on Facebook and LinkedIn?

I would like to connect with you there also. I am trying to make more friends and fans so that I can spread awareness for breast cancer during pregnancy. I was diagnosed Stage 3 in the 5th month of my pregnancy in May. My status updates on Facebook and LinkedIn are usually about my fight.

Scribblers’ Retreat is a non-profit organization established with the goal of reaching writers of all ages; to inspire and promote their hidden gifts and talents.
By involving the local community, authors, publishers, editors, journalists and all forms of the literary world, we are opening their minds and bringing hope where there was doubt.
Scribblers’ Retreat is not the typical classroom setting. It was designed to bring world-class authors, literature professors, editors, journalists, illustrators, photo journalists, proofreaders, publishers, publicists, screenplay writers, and website/graphic designers, etc. one-on-one with young and old alike. It is the opportunity of a lifetime for someone who has had a manuscript in a desk drawer for 40 years or who has an outstanding poem that simply must be read.
