With Amazon.com, social networking, and literary blogs

connecting writers virtually with readers, it's easy to forget local ways to reach new readers.

In this video interview with New York Round Table Writers' Conference panelist Stephanie Dickinson, the author explained her local approach to promoting "Half Girl"--taking her book to schools in Iowa.

She's not the only writer with a local focus. Authors Bob Burg and John David Mann took their… Continue

Hi Kare,

I am Margaret Garrett Irwin often known as Maggie. I published a book made from the hand written journal that my great great grandmother made from letters received from her daughter about her experiences as a nurse with Florence Nightingale and also in the American Civil War. The book is called "The Journal of Anne Reading from Florence Nightingale to Dorothea Dix and Beyond." I published with print on demand publishers Trafford. The book can be purchased from Trafford or Amazon or direct from me.

Sunny Frazier introduced me to Book Marketing Network. We just had a great book fest in Hanford organized by Sunny.

I am presently working on a biographical novel about my life -The First 50 years.

We have all heard a lot about Susan Boyle. I will have to find out more about Joe Pine. I am particularly interested as I am from London and I first heard about Susan in a newsletter I receive from a Brit in North Carolina. I just had a letter published in The Fresno Bee that I wrote in response to an editorial. Anyway I will now look at the rest of your blog about Susan Boyle and Joe Pine. I live outside of Oakhurst on the way to Yosemite.

Best wishes, Maggie
Margaret Garrett Irwin

Scribblers’ Retreat is a non-profit organization established with the goal of reaching writers of all ages; to inspire and promote their hidden gifts and talents.
By involving the local community, authors, publishers, editors, journalists and all forms of the literary world, we are opening their minds and bringing hope where there was doubt.
Scribblers’ Retreat is not the typical classroom setting. It was designed to bring world-class authors, literature professors, editors, journalists, illustrators, photo journalists, proofreaders, publishers, publicists, screenplay writers, and website/graphic designers, etc. one-on-one with young and old alike. It is the opportunity of a lifetime for someone who has had a manuscript in a desk drawer for 40 years or who has an outstanding poem that simply must be read.

Kare,

Thanks for your contact. I apologize for responding so late. I would really like to blog on mom sites about this and other related subjects. In general I find that parents tend not to care about this subject until THEIR child develops an addiction problem. By then, prevention of addiction is no longer an option. It is rather frustrating. If you know of some good blog sites for this discussion, please let me know.
