About Me and My Book:
I am the mother of three, the stepmother of two, and the grandmother of 10. I also founded our local community theatre back in 1992 and still direct 2-3 shows per year.

My newest book, "Checkmate", is a romantic thriller to be released May 1, 2008. It tells the story of Caryn Deaver. Her ex-husband tried to kill her and their children eighteen years ago. He went to prison for the crime, but he's out now and determined to finish the job. A period of sadistic stalking is a prerequisite to the final "Checkmate;" each progressive stalking incident includes a note: "Checkmate — nine moves," "Checkmate — eight moves"... If Dan has his way, the last move will ensure Caryn's death...and the death of the new man in her life, Cheyenne Fire Chief, Zach Riker. Zach is just as determined to thwart Dan's "game" and will stop at nothing to protect the woman he loves...or die trying.

Sorry I haven't posted for so long. I've been busy writing and editing "Checkmate" and am so happy to say it is finally DONE and will be released May 1. "Checkmate" is the beginning of my "break" from the romance genre. It is classified as a "romantic thriller," but is actually more thriller than romance. My family and friends actually laugh when I say there isn't even one love scene in the entire book! (I'm known for my steamy love scenes, s… Continue

The Ultimate Passage

Hi, and welcome to my first blog post. My name is Jean Hackensmith, and I am the co-author (along with Kathe Birch) of "The Ultimate Passage," Book 4 in The "Passage" Time Travel Romance Saga. If you like to read time travel romance, then this series is definitely for you. The book takes place in 14th century Scotland, at the time of Robert the Bruce, William Wallace and King Edward. It is filled with tons of action, adventure and romance--a feat in itself considering that the hero comes from

Are you on Facebook and LinkedIn?

I would like to connect with you there also. I am trying to make more friends and fans so that I can spread awareness for breast cancer during pregnancy. I was diagnosed Stage 3 in the 5th month of my pregnancy in May. My status updates on Facebook and LinkedIn are usually about my fight.

By involving the local community, authors, publishers, editors, journalists and all forms of the literary world, we are opening their minds and bringing hope where there was doubt.
Scribblers’ Retreat is not the typical classroom setting. It was designed to bring world-class authors, literature professors, editors, journalists, illustrators, photo journalists, proofreaders, publishers, publicists, screenplay writers, and website/graphic designers, etc. one-on-one with young and old alike. It is the opportunity of a lifetime for someone who has had a manuscript in a desk drawer for 40 years or who has an outstanding poem that simply must be read.
