What motivates you to write?

This is a question that I have been thinking about a lot recently. I’m a musician who is writing a couple of books with a friend of mine. The books are about “why” and “how” to succeed as an independent artist - author or musician.

I believe that internal motivation is one of the major factors that determines the success or failure of a project. You have to have a powerful “why” and I don’t think that wanting to earn money with your book or music is a good enough “why” to succeed. I’m not sugge… Continue

If you self-publish your book are you a published author?

I read an interesting blog post today that states "First and foremost, a self-published novel does not a published author make." I find that statement most disturbing. It goes on to talk about the expectations of the author. If one just wants to put their novel out for a few friends then it is okay to use a vanity press. But you won't ever sell a "zillion" books. She also poin… Continue

Are you on Facebook and LinkedIn?

I would like to connect with you there also. I am trying to make more friends and fans so that I can spread awareness for breast cancer during pregnancy. I was diagnosed Stage 3 in the 5th month of my pregnancy in May. My status updates on Facebook and LinkedIn are usually about my fight.

Hi Bill,
This is some very awesome work you are doing. It's quiet an undertaking. I am undertaking the feat of writing serial material designed for coordinated multi-media use, books, graphic novel and movies, so that the material is released in all forums all at once. It's not taught anywhere , I've had to work with several gifted editors, writers and producers to get to a base platform for my work. Your music is beautiful. Congratulation on following your passion. I hope you are enjoying the fruits of your work.

I'd also like to invite you to check outr my websites - www.freewebs.com/thedesertwriter and www.freewebs.com/desertwriter - and feel free to comment or give your input. Bill,

We're practically neighbors; I'm in Citrus Heights.

I really like the Indie undertones of your messaging...more down to earth and authentic. I am very impressed with the contest you are hosting as well. My 16-year old daughter is an extraordinary writer, although she tends to keep her works too close and rarely shares them. I'll let her know about your contest. Money at that age is a great incentive! : )

Glad to see Sue is taking good care of you, too.

With Gratitude,
Michelle Ulrich
