Hello to all--I just joined and I'm trying to get a feel for the membership. At least, I'm familiar with Ning groups, and I believe some of my friends from other sites are here, as well. I write Western Historical Romances for THE WILD ROSE PRESS. My first release--ALL MY HOPES AND DREAMS--is Nov. 1 in eBook format, Feb. 22, 2009, in print. My second is TEXAS BLUE, in editing stage now and I have the cover. I do have three shorters stories on there, too. My interests are history (even though my educational background is in the sciences), and the usual things, such as family, friends, and traveling. I've been married to the same man for many years--we're each other's best friends. My main goal is to continue writing and publishing in the same genre as now, but also searching for a publisher for some of my non-romance novels (one historic, especially.) So, of course, my life revolves around networking as well as writing. Glad to meet you all. Celia

This is something rather new to me. It is hard to teach old dogs new tricks , especially when the poor old thing has eye problems! But my books get good reviews, even if from those with little influence — SO FAR, I am ever hopeful! Wish I could do all this clever trailer stuff! Wish I did not live so far away from some of these events that take place. But then, I would miss our beautiful English Lake District.
I'll be back when I have more time. I have a new book to complete this month. (Short stories, no fixed title yet.

October 18th, Wag Fest Literary Bazaar is the place to for self-published authors.

Wag Fest Litertainment is more than a literary conference and bazaar; it is a movement that promotes self sufficiency and resourcefulness. Although not exclusive, Wag Fest caters to independent and self published authors, poets, musicians, comedians, and artist. Starting in 2007 in New Jersey, a close knit group of authors got together in the spirit to sell books and have a good time. Since then, a second Wag Fest in March 2008 - this time in Seattle - proved to be a huge success with standing room only and a larger group of artists that traveled cross country to participate in this event. The saying at Wag Fest is "come as strangers but leave as family" and that has proven true time and time again.

In March 2008, Wag Fest Seattle consisted of a bustling poetry party and book bazaar. Special guests, BET Comedian D Lamont Hall and CJ Johnson of Hiram Clarke Films were in attendance, and CJ taught a class at the conference on how to turn your book into a film. CJ has an impressive resume and has worked with some of the best in the film industry. He provided a plethora of valuable information on the movie industry along with offering his services to convert your book into a film or play.

Trust us when we say - YOU WILL NOT WALK AWAY THE SAME!

ONLY $100 registration & vending fee.

If you are unable to make the event in October, you have the opportunity to send your promotional items for the inexpensive fee of $20. You can pay your fees via PayPal. The email address is wagfest@aol.com.

Asta Publications will be conducting “Writing is Hard Enough... Publishing Shouldn't Be!" workshop series at the Wag Fest event March 13-15, 2009 at Wag Fest in Seattle 2009 in Seattle. Go ahead and start making plans to attend this thought informative event, if you want to find out about the self-publishing industry. Self-publish the right way and save some money.

I recently published my book through an e-book company, which gives me the right to publish the same book in print from another publisher or self-publish.

My publisher offers three options through her company. One of which would be using Baker & Taylor. However, she says if I do so, neither her company or I will make "any" money. Some of the authors in her company want to do so anyway for the "status." I don't think this is good business to have a book distributed and ordered through B&T and not make any money from it. She says the 55% off the top she has to give to B&T, plus the printer and shipping is why no one makes any money. Can you give me some advice on this? I don't know whether to go with my publisher for print books or self-publish through a company like CreateSpace.
