Book Marketing Network

The network for book authors and publishers

Books In Sync -

I wonder if anyone has any experience to share about this site. I'm not sure that paying for this service will increase the sales of my book. What we are essentially doing here, I believe, is advertising to other authors, who may or not be a great market as maybe they don't actually spend a lot of money on books.
So if anyone has managed to sell substantially from this site, please let me know.
Thanks

I see this site as a way to see how other authors are advertsing. I doubt I've sold a single book from the site but I'm gathering information and am going to try some of the things others have suggested.

I have put both of my books on Google BookSearch. This is an ideal spot to send anyone you know might be interested, so that they can read an excerpt of your book. You still have to publicize it first though.
1) Lost in Long Cove
2) Smoke Screen

It takes awhile after uploading (according to specific instructions) for your books to appear on BookSearch, but it works well. I haven't had any more sales though. A neat aspect is that readers can leave a critique or review if they like. One gentleman did that for Smoke Screen.
I also have a web page. I have 'donated' the books to the local library, had an article in the local paper, still the only sales I've had are from friends and family.

The lack of content about book marketing has made me wonder how long I'll check here. Congratulations to all of us who are publishing, but I expected helpful information about marketing to book buyers (reinforcing what I know, changing directions, new techniques?).

If you have already tried "everything" (and I suspect you have) this site is supposed to be good for picking up tips. But book buyers are not nibbling, and they are tougher to reach than you might think. As for marketing, John Kremer has written some excellent books, and I have one book myself. But I think most of us are guarding our secrets jealously. We share as much as we can among one another but will not give out the gems easily. And this particular site is where we can and do promote ourselves. If you can't find anything to help you, I'm not sure why. Every page has got something or other you can use.

If it costs $$$ I cannot afford it. And most of the places I am already selling from (including Amazon) are not conducive to selling books, believe it or not. The Kindle has no juice, and my books have disappeared beneath a pile of public domain "freebies". As a novel author and publisher I am beginning to lose hope. I have spruced up my own web site, lowered my prices, etc., but as long as the freebies are out there I am losing sales, and I am considering throwing in the towel for a more lucrative profession, like begging on the street corner. What is someone like me to do? I've tried everything.
