Jim O’Donnell writes from the mountains of northern New Mexico where he led the campaign to pass the Valle Vidal Protection Act of 2005. An expert in natural resource planning, Jim has developed watershed restoration partnerships between communities and land management agencies. An author, gardener and archaeologist, Jim holds a Master’s Degree in Community and Regional planning and is certified in Permaculture Design. He is a principal in Collaborative Green, a sustainability consulting firm. His written work has appeared in Hyenas Laughed at Me and Now I Know Why, Catch 2, Wild, Suomen Luonto and Conceptions Southwest.

"Notes for the Aurora Society" is the story of a 1500-mile walk through Finland. Leaving from the southernmost point of Finland, the author crossed the Finnish countryside interviewing Finns about their relationship to nature and exploring the land and the history that made modern Finland. His journey deposited him, five-months later, on the shores of the Arctic Ocean. Blending a naturalist’s ecosystem knowledge with an anthropologist’s ability to elicit unique insight into the process of culture, this work of travel literature is the first book to look at the Finnish people through their connection to the natural world.

Just wanted to share the news...my second book has just been published!
THE PREACHER is an exciting story that follows an assassin bent on revenge after the death of his parents by Union forces. Trained to kill by none other than ‘Bloody Bill’ Anderson, the assassin is terrorizing the West. Deputy U.S. Marshal Jake Silver must hunt him down and bring him to justice before he kills again, and round up an entire network of criminal activity.

I updated my profile with just a little info about my two novels. An interesting tidbit about When Pigs Fly: I tried to get the Alamogordo Friends of the Library to host a reading back in 07. Their chairperson was enthusiastic until I sent her the first chapter. She responded that "they" weren't interested and couldn't think of anyone in town who would be interested in such a book. (There is a bad guy who does bad things and uses bad language. I tried to reassure her that there were also good guys who did good things and used good language, but to no avail.) The Friends in Las Cruces hosted me later, and I sold a half dozen copies. I've also had success marketing the book as "Banned in Alamogordo."

Incidentally, I write a monthly column for Southwest Senior in Las Cruces entitled "Local Authors, Local Books." The pub's owner wants me to expand the scope to cover all of New Mexico, so if you have written anything that can be tied into New Mexico, let me know.
