There are different options for different people, Chad. It depends on what you want to accomplish. If you wish recognition and respect from the publishing world you may try to earn it by going through the system. Like Ms. Stewart stated, the opportunities to get published through the major publishing houses are fewer and fewer. Self publishing is a legitimate option. It's hard work, but it pays off. Some of today's best sellers started as self published books, such as Eragon by Christopher Paolini. I think you need to do more research in the field and broaden your horizons on the options you have as a writer.

Chad , you are out of touch with today's publishing trends. POD and self-publishing are becoming the new option for writers. Traditional publishers are just not taking on as many new authors anymore .

In my eyes you're not truly a published Author if you had to pay to get your book or books in print. It's all about you the Authot getting paid by a publishing house. Then you can consider yourself up there with Stephen King and all the others.

Fantasy is intriguing to me. I'd like to transcend the science ficiton and attempt a fantasy novel, maybe start with a short story.

How does a writer get his work read by the members of this group? I'd really like some feedback and comments on my writing.

Greetings, all!

Like everyone else, I have a fantasy novel out. The first of a series about a human warrior-monk and skilled wizard, who is asked to raise and train a seven year old dragon princess. A child of immense wizardry powers. And a child created by dragon prophecy that states she will grow up and lead the final great assault on humanity.

If you like a fantasy that has the oriental flavor of Chinese Taois philosophy mixed into it (along with Greco-Roman Stoic philosophy) I suggest you take a look at Roland of the High Crags: Evil Arises. you can find it on my web site at www.brstateham.com
