Holding Back

I have done all the reading. I have done all the research. I have some of my articles written. I have NOT submitted anything! Why?

Something is holding me back from submitting. It seems like such a big step! In fact it overwhelms me. It appears confusing to me. No matter how many times I read the requirements to submit articles I freeze up. I am an intelligent woman of 57 who is never at a loss for words: who enjoys getting my work 'out there'.

Does anyone have any suggestions for getting over this or a specific course of action? I would so appreciate it!

I am padma here . I am a script writer so I need an agent for selling my script. I therefore went to
a site for info but all I got was brickbats and all but still I never gave up . Be bold and positive
and things will get easy

Thank you so much, Padma. I appreicate your feedback! I am usually bold and positive. For some reason this step of the process is creating a fear in me that I do not wish to have. I guess the best thing to do is to just do it no matter the consequences. It is that first step that is a zinger. *smile*

Hi Susie,

I get what you are saying and have suffered the same sort of paralysis for years. It's fear - pure and simple. If your first thought is "I'm not afraid of writing or anything else" than that says it all - you are.

Fear is not a bad thing. It makes us run from a smoky building, work to avoid homelessness, fight when we have no other choice to live. However the biggest fear that most humans have is the fear of NO. The fear of being rejected. Remember? It was one of the first words you relished spitting at your parents at the age of 2.

A book that has helped me move forward is "Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway" by Susan Jeffers. The original can be had for $0.01 on Amazon and she is selling the 20th Anniversary Edition on her website SusanJeffers.com.

Let's do this together. I have forty years of fiction writings and ideas that have never seen the light of day. I have spent my time on nonfiction because of my work. I obviously have a voice and it needs to be heard.

So do you. Start today Susan. Forget all of the technicalitties and just start writing. Go over to Helium or BellaOnline and just start submitting small articles. Write short stories or flash fiction and post them on your blog. Be free of your analysis paralysis and just write. You've got a whole community behind you.

WOW! You have so hit the nail on the head, Diane! I am so caught up in what everyone else is doing, what I 'should' be doing, that I am not doing what I want to be doing: writing!
