It would be nice if you could share places that we could submit articles (at least for consideration). None of the rest matters if we don't have a place to place our articles. Thank you!

Dear Susie:
I submit articles to ezinearticles.com . I had a lot more faith in the articles having read about them than the actual results in terms of sales. But certainly, it helps in creating links to your website and more name recognition is always a good thing. I published 40 articles on the site mentioned and they have been reprinted 450 times. Some you can find online but I'm sure many were taken for private newsletters as well.
To find the sites to submit to, just put in "Free article submissions" to google.com and you will be able to find them. Additionally if someone reviews your work and you have permission, you can go into "Free press releases" and submit the book reviews.
I would classify submitting articles online as a minor way to get a little attention. To get more, you can simply email through to magazines that you would like to write for with a few of the articles you've written in the past. You would email through to the Freelance Editor or someone about five down on the masthead called Articles Editor. Consider that published work in paper format is often retained by people and you can see why this may be a better way to go longterm.
Additionally, if your work is fiction or non-fiction, you can always pull out one or two aspects of the book and email associations that deal with that. They often have their own newsletters and magazines. One of our authors is going to be featured with six pages of her story in a Bodyguard magazine in England because bodyguards are throughout her fictional novel The Governor's Wife by Kate Rizor. So that is another way to go as well.
Thank you, Robyn, for this information. It is very helpful. I have gone several times to ezinearticles.com and printed out the information needed to submit. For some reason I am holding back from submitting. I think it is because I will submit wrong and they will say no. I tell others that fear makes us stagnant. Guess I should practice what I preach.
I have a question..how unique!!! I need some sources for babyboom sites that get lots of traffic..and also does anyone know of a good source for talk radio shows directories (that dont cost an arm and a leg)..carol stanley...carolstanley1.com "For Kids 59.99 and Over"

No problem. I like to share.
I think the main thing to do when presenting yourself is to try to present yourself in the third person in whatever you're doing. So say you write the article about something. You're not presenting your book in it but other issues of the day. The tagline at the end that talks about you in third person "Susie Sunshine is...." is what you're getting. Same with press releases. It implies some big shot is writing it.
When I phone up for book signings or to talk with people whom I have some faint hope of booking book signings for our authors, I'm just that gal on the phone from Stargazer Press unless they ask who the heck I am. Same with my office if I answer the phone.
What's worked for me is 2 services for a fee and then a list of places I submit manually. See my blog for links, etc.
First is uniquearticlewizard.com where you write THREE copies of your articles. But they mix them all up. the result? I hit 35 of Google's 50 slots for my keywords for my first article. that sold me! My follow up articles have had good results too.
Then I submit to articlemarketer.com - another investment, but well worth it. they find places to submit I never would.
Then ezinearticles.com
associatedcontent.com
my social networks
americanchronicle.com
faithwriters.com (for reprint too)
ideamarketers.com (where you can also bid for placement for more publicity, I do this occasionally, good results, high in Google)
and I am collecting names of people who are editors who want me to send them a copy too.
my own blog
the best part of Uniquearticlewizard is you go in and get a "fresh unqiue" article for every place you submit so no duplicate content. I also participate in a pain blog carnival and am a guest blogger in a couple places or write for ezines. they get first dibs, then I send them out later to the rest of the groups
I've had great results. See www.youcansellmorebooks.com for the links and my different "experiements"
it's trial and error. I am trying to commit to 1 article a week and I do rewrites while my son plays at McDonalds.
I don't mess with any small directories anymore. too much waste of time and too many different rules. the other best thing to do is have good keyword phrases (I use nichbot.com) these can easily be placed in the articles. one I did last week I used phrases my "parish nurse certification" which was a high ranked phrase, rather than to write "to be cerified as a parish nurse..." No change of meaning, easy to slip in, and helps with ranking!
son is hollering, no dinner cooked for hubby. gotta run! :)
